Good Luck hunting!

Maps of Scotland

National Library of Scotland has digitised many of the maps in their collections. Follow the link here and click on 'Find  by place' to see maps of where your ancestors lived. Churches, Schools, Mills, and many other places are on the maps.

Are you looking to find out more about a place in Scotland? Scotlans Places are a definite must. There are also some great free resources on the site like cottage tax lists, cart tax lists, servant tax lists, and ordnance survey descriptions.

We've all struggled with reading old documents at one point or another. The National Records of Scotland runs a website called Scottish Handwriting.  There is coaching and tutorials on the site which can help with difficult letters.

Tribal Pages

By far my favourite website for managing information. Tribal Pages keeps everything in one place allowing you to make notes and cite everything you find. Never get caught out by not having your family tree with you! Best of all is you can sign up for free just follow this link.

Free Course

Scottish Records are unique. If you are just starting out tracing your Scottish family history it is worth doing this course. The course is offered by the University of Strathclyde and gives you a basic understanding of how to trace your ancestry. Best part it's complete FREE!
